Central Park–It Started with a Letter

Lynda Zussman mailed a letter to my home after reading the published “2009, Putting her heart into it” newspaper article. Lynda shared the events of what occurred in Central Park, Memorial Day, 2008 when her beloved daughter, Lauren collapsed. Lauren Zussman, a 26 year-old Ford Model, was studying to be a Life Coach at New York University.  She resided in Manhatten for 5 years of her life, but her roots were in Southern California – Newport Beach.  Tragically, Lauren collapsed in Central Park while out for a jog with her fiancé. There were...

What People Are Saying – Justin Darby, Director of Marketing, AED.com

Here at AED.com, when we decided to give away 100 AEDs this year we knew we were going to be touched by many of the stories we would hear. Rescue Heart Foundation is one who stood out to us and touched our hearts.

What People Are Saying – Dr. Thomas Benvenuti, MD FACC

Dr. Thomas Benvenuti, MD FACC Chairman of Cardiology, Hoag Memorial Hospital Far too many of our loved ones are dying of heart attacks before they even reach the hospital. Many times the first symptom is sudden death from an arrhythmia due to the underlying heart attack. If we can intervene with CPR and emergency defibrillation with an AED, many of these patients will survive. This arrhythmia may even occur in teenagers from a baseball hitting the chest or a blow to the sternum. I feel placing AEDs in our communities will help these...

Rescue Heart Ready to Assist

The first Rescue Heart AED was donated to a recreational facility in Southern California where AYSO plays soccer. A few months after the donation, one of the adults at a game began to suffer severe chest pains. The leaders, having been trained by Rescue Heart, were ready to respond. The man, unfamiliar with AEDs, declined treatment and returned home, only to be immediately rushed to the hospital as he was experiencing an acute myocardial infarction (heart attack). The man recovered – this time. Rescue Heart not only provides the...

Welcome! This week I start training for a 2014 TransAmerica bike ride …

Welcome!  This week I start training for a 2014 Trans-America bike ride … This week I start training for the BIG ‘Ride Rescue Heart,’ coast-to-coast bicycle journey!  It’s time to get back on the saddle.  I have a new bike that will take me the distance on the transcontinental crossing.  So exciting!  I trained all of 4 weeks with perhaps 5 rides for the 2010 San Francisco to Santa Monica Ride with a victorious finish but, it was not the best plan.  This bicycle ride will need more in depth planning and some serious training.  So,...

Bike Ride 2010–Day 7

Ventura to Santa Monica The end was in sight!  It was exciting to think that I had almost completed the journey but it was also bittersweet and I needed every bit of support to take me to the finish.  A dear friend rode the last 60 miles with me and inspired me to keep pedaling along the coastline.  Once on PCH it was a straight shot down the beautiful coastline pedaling through Malibu and into Santa Monica.  The temperature was perfect, a little bit of breeze with a tailwind that got us to the victorious finish!  This was much more than just...
