I want to give a shout-out to the wonderful staff at REI, especially one lady in particular who went one step above and beyond delivering great customer service. Not only that but, she left me with a smile, big and radiant, and with a heart full of gratitude. I went to the store to purchase my first pair of biking shoes with clips; the ones that allow you to go the distance. Having never used them before and with all the choices that are available, I went armed with questions. Being my first purchase, I was a little apprehensive because the thought of being secured to something while riding my bike seemed like an accident waiting to happen. What if I couldn’t get out of them quick enough to stop? With practice I knew I could overcome the fear. She answered every question I had, eased my anxiety, handed me some tools, new bike shoes, and together we screwed on the clips. She taught me how to adjust them; she put one together, while I did the other. Prior to assembling the shoes, she asked me why I needed them and I told her that it was for a TransAmerica charity bike ride in June; the biggest physical challenge I have ever committed too. I never could have anticipated what was to come next; she reached into her pockets and pulled out every dollar bill she had while on duty at work and handed them over to me, saying “it’s not much but this is for your Foundation, I know every penny counts.” I cannot begin to tell you how profoundly grateful I was at that given moment. My heart was full. Such a beautiful random act of kindness I wanted to share with you. Priceless! Her support with RHF allows us to do some great work. We thank her for making a difference and for being a valuable donor of our organization.
